Test Track 2.0 is Now Closed! What Will 3.0 Look Like?

Test Track 2.0 is officially closed at Walt Disney World’s EPCOT. The 25-year-old ride is getting yet another revamp, but what will the Chevrolet-sponsored attraction look like when it reopens?

Attraction Magazine reports that Test Track will reopen in the “spirit of optimism.” That theme was very common among several defunct rides that used to populate EPCOT.

The concept art for Test Track 3.0 offers a very open interpretation of what to expect. The front entrance to the ride building will be revised, with new signage and possibly the removal of all the current sun shades. The interior, however, is a little harder to pin down. It may get a bit more scenic, and thankfully, there’s no IP in sight.

Even if Test Track stays down for a few months or into the next season, it brings to the parks a problem that has been creeping in since the mid-2000s.

As of now, EPCOT is facing a serious issue. The main entrance and the World Showcase have a deficit in guest-swallowing attractions. Unlike the park’s past offerings, few rides in 2024 can absorb and occupy parkgoers in massive numbers.

The more complex the attractions get, the less likely guests won’t encounter long lines and wait times. Such has been the case with EPCOT’s two newest attractions, which require virtual queues.

The World of Motion (which Test Track replaced) and Horizons could handle a steady stream of guests without stopping. Test Track, Mission Space, and Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind aren’t as lucky.

With Test Track down for a prolonged refurb/refresh/redesign, more people will be lining up (virtually or physically) at the remaining attractions. If the rumors are true about Journey Into Imagination, it’s possible that EPCOT fans may find themselves waiting half a day to see non-E Ticket rides.
