Taco Bell has finally brought back the Churro Ice Cream Taco. Fans were upset when it was discontinued in 2022.
To bring back the treat Taco Bell teamed up with Salt & Straw for the Churro Ice Cream Taco, which costs $3.99. It is available at participating Taco Bell locations across the country starting today.
It’s a crispy waffle cone shell filled with a new churro ice cream, covered in puffed rice, and finished with a dark chocolate-flavored coating. Salt & Straw created it exclusively for Taco Bell.
Salt & Straw Choco-Waffle Chiller
Another exciting offering is the Choco-Waffle Chiller, exclusively at Live Más Café locations.
This new beverage costs $4.69, and features a vanilla ice cream base blended with churro crumbles and waffle cone pieces inside a crackable chocolatey shell. Topped with whipped cream and additional waffle cone pieces.
Salt & Straw picked up what Klondike dropped
The Choco Taco was invented in 1983 by Alan Drazen and sold only from ice cream trucks until 1993. Unilever bought the company and folded it into Klondike, which then discontinued it in July 2022.
Fans were mad, and Klondike said it was “working hard to find a way to bring Choco Taco back to ice cream trucks in the coming years.”
Spoiler alert- they didn’t.
Taco Bell seized the opportunity
Taco Bell sold the original until it removed it from the menu in 2015. They even had a short run with Klondike in early 2022, offering the Choco Taco at 20 locations in Los Angeles and Milwaukee for Klondike’s 100th anniversary.
Then Klondike deep-sixed it.
Salt & Straw steps in
In 2022, Salt & Straw ran its own limited release of Choco Tacos at its shops, and it sold out in minutes.
Taco Bell noticed and teamed up.
The first team-up was the Tacolate in 2025, which was only available at Salt & Straw locations. Of course it sold out quickly.
Now here we are with the Churro Ice Cream Taco.
There’s a cooler giveaway on September 8
Starting at 2 p.m. PT on September 8, Taco Bell members can enter a Tuesday Drops sweepstakes through the Taco Bell app for a chance to win one of 100 limited-edition Salt & Straw coolers. Each one contains three Churro Ice Cream Tacos and a custom sticker sheet.
The contest window is only one hour, closing at 3 PM PT, and is open to eligible members in the contiguous US and Washington, D.C.
The pink Baja Blast is still coming
The collaboration with Olivia Rodrigo is still coming on September 24.
Nobody has said how long the ice cream tacos will be offered, only that they run while supplies last. Given that the last two Salt & Straw collaborations both sold out fast, and that this one is the closest thing to a Choco Taco anyone has managed in four years, you need to run to Taco Bell now!
