Star Wars Celebration is currently happening in Tokyo, Japan. During the event it was announced that the “Star Wars” film from director Shawn Levy, staring Ryan Gosling, will be called “Star Wars: Starfighter.”
“Star Wars: Starfighter” will hit theaters on May 28, 2027, landing just three weeks after another Disney blockbuster, “Avengers: Secret Wars,” which premieres on May 7, 2027.
Taking the stage, Gosling praised the script, penned by Jonathan Tropper, who previously collaborated with Levy on hit films “This Is Where I Leave You” and “The Adam Project.”
“The reality is that this script is just so good,” Gosling enthused. “It has such a great story with great and original characters. It’s filled with so much heart and adventure, and there just really is not a more perfect filmmaker for this particular story than Shawn.”
Adding a charming personal touch, Gosling shared a photo of his childhood Star Wars bedsheets, humorously credited to his mother. “She still has them, obviously,” he joked. “Naturally, she thought that it might be something that the fans would appreciate, but I suspect she just sort of wants to justify years of hoarding.”
Levy confirmed that “Star Wars: Starfighter” is a standalone film unrelated to the beloved Skywalker Saga, exploring entirely new territory set five years after “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.”
“This is a standalone. It’s not a prequel, not a sequel. It’s a new adventure,” Levy explained, noting it’s set in an era previously unexplored in the franchise.
Production is slated to begin this fall.
Casting is currently heating up, with Hollywood buzzing about the search for a teen actor to join Gosling on-screen, alongside a male and female villain duo. Plot specifics remain closely guarded, leaving fans eager and excited for more.
