Star Wars Loses Yet Another Writer On The Rey Movie. Da fuq!

In a surprise to no one, the Rey film, which disappeared after being pushed back for “The Mandalorian and Grogu,” has hit yet another setback. This time, the new writer, who Lucasfilm and Kathleen Kennedy got to replace the other two writers they fired, has also left the film.

Steven Knight was brought in March 2023 to replace the original writers Damon Lindelof and Justin Britt-Gibson. Lindelof has said publically that he was asked to leave Star Wars.

This isn’t even the first time this has happened. Kathleen Kennedy has a trail of people who either quit or were fired for “creative differences.”

There is a list of 18 from 2022, which has increased since then!  Some of the people removed include,

Some people, like Colin Trevvarrow, seemed to have a better take on the film or show than what was released.

Stuart Beattie developed “Obi-Wan Kenobi” but was later replaced. This is likely why we ended up with the cannon-bending Little Leia show instead of a proper Obi-Wan protecting Luke Skywalker story.

Knight has joined the ranks of others fired or removed for nebulous reasons or “creative differences.”

The director allegedly made anti-male comments in the past.

To throw kerosene on the already rampant rumors that Lucasfilm is trying to make The Force female (I’m a long-time female Star Wars fan saying this), the director hired for the Rey film, Sharmeed Obaid-Chinoy, had an interview clip surface where she said,

“Oh, absolutely. I like to make men uncomfortable. I enjoy making men uncomfortable … it is important to be able to look into the eyes of a man and say, ‘I am here’ and recognize that. And recognize that I am working to bring something that makes you uncomfortable, and it should make you uncomfortable because you need to change your attitude.

And it’s only when you’re uncomfortable, when you are shifty, when you have to have difficult conversations that you will perhaps look at yourself in the mirror and not like the reflection and then say, maybe there is something wrong with the way I think or maybe there is something wrong with the way I am addressing this issue.”

Her comments were from several years ago, at a Women in the World Foundation panel. Relative to the panel, her comments are in context, and it is argued that they are not her thoughts on “Star Wars.”

However, before this comment being found, she told CNN that it was about time a woman was shaped in “Star Wars.”

“I’m very thrilled about the project because I feel what we’re about to create is something very special. We’re in 2024 now, and it’s about time that we had a woman come forward to shape a story in a galaxy far, far away.”

This is highly ironic given that many women have worked on “Star Wars.” Kathleen Kennedy has been in charge of the franchise for years. Marcia Lucas, George Lucas’s wife at the time of “A New Hope,” edited the film and was pivotal in bringing about the movie that created the franchise.

Sharmeen is still attached to the film, but another male writer has been removed, and the Rey film will be delayed yet again.

The only film we know will release is “The Mandalorian and Grogu” in May 2026.

Disney has two release dates slated for other “Star Wars” films: December 2026 and December 2027. But no titles have been assigned yet.

At this point, we can only hope that the rumors of Kathleen Kennedy’s departure at the end of the year, when her contract expires, are true. The franchise is dying, and there is a trail of “creative differences” that track back to her.
