According to the Orlando Sentinel about 120 Walt Disney World custodial employees are being called back to work for Disney Springs, as a few third party restaurants and stores will be allowed to reopen on May 20th. Of course not all of the locations are choosing to reopen at this time.
Prior to the reopening some of the workers could return to work by Friday, May 15th, to get it clean and ready.
Eric Clinton, President of Unite Here 362 is happy to hear it stating “It’s great. We’ve got to start somewhere. Custodian work, as you can imagine, will become quite important.”
Disney is going to provide masks for the custodial crews to wear to keep them safe and social distancing guidelines will continue as the area opens. Disney will be meeting regularly with the union leaders to stay on top of safety concerns: “In addition, Clinton said Disney and the union leaders plan to meet regularly to discuss safety concerns that arise, which he said gives him confidence that workers will be safe and their voices heard.”
I’m sure many want to get back to work, but it’s also a scary time for many, so I think they should be heard.
There are still a lot of employees that are laid off, but it’s a start!
