Disney released a trailer today for “Snow White” and announced that you can “Get Tickets Now.” But the early box office projections are not looking great for this live-action remake.
What is the opening projection?
According to the Hollywood Reporter, the opening weekend is between $48 million and $58 million. This is already down from the $65-$68 million they claimed a month ago.
That is not good, especially when this film’s budget could be $269 million or more, putting break even at almost $675 million. Normally, the break-even estimate is set at 2-2.5 times the initial budget. Just because a film earns back, the budget does not mean it has broken even or profited. There are theater chain cuts, marketing, residuals, and more that must also be factored into the total.
Here is the new “Snow White” trailer,
The comments do not support this film like the other trailers before it.
Why do people hate this movie so much?
There are a few reasons why people are not supporting the film.
1. They are tired of live-action remakes or reimaginings.
Disney has seen a big decline in these movies’ viewership and potential audiences.
2. People do not like the lead actress Rachel Zegler.
One of the big obstacles this film has faced is the star. Rachel Zelger, who plays Snow White, has caused controversy about this movie. From announcing that the prince was like a stalker to wishing “No peace” to Trump voters, she has stepped in, and there is no pulling her out.
Things Zegler has done:
She mocked the original film as being dated and creepy.
She said that is about Snow White being a leader.
The “Fairest of them all” doesn’t mean beauty but who is most fair and just.
She posted “Free Palestine” while her co-star, Gal Gadot, is Israeli.
She said she should be paid if she has to wear a Disney princess dress for several hours a day.
She wished “No peace” to Trump supporters.
The media keeps trying to blame racism, but there are many other reasons fans are upset.
3. The Seven Dwarfs
Many fans are upset about the CGI dwarfs in the film. Instead of hiring actors with dwarfism for the roles, they made them CGI, which comes across as more “Uncanny Valley” than cute.
4. Social issues
Due to the comments by Rachel Zegler and the inclusion of Gal Gadot, pro-Palestine and pro-Israeli groups both claim they will boycott the film.
Fans are not supporting this film. It will be interesting to see how it performs at the box office. It’s a train wreck.
