Snow White Has Worst Drop Off Of Any Disney Live Action Film

Disney’s “Snow White” had another rocky weekend at the box office. In its second weekend, it came in behind “Working Man,” making $14.2 million domestically. This is down from the low opening weekend of $42.2 million, giving it a drop of 66.4%.

That second week plummet was enough to make it the worst drop off ever for a Disney live-action film in its second weekend.  Even worse than the 2019 film “Dumbo.”

According to Screenrant, the film dropped off worse than another Disney live-action film.

“Snow White” fell off 66.4%. The next largest drop was “Dumbo” at 60.4 and then the 2019 “The Lion King” film at 60.05. When you compare it to even the other most recent live-action film, “Mufasa: The Lion King” from 2024, we can see it increased by almost 4% in the second week.

This isn’t looking good for the Princess remake. Especially with “Minecraft” opening in a few days.

When “Snow White” is compared to second weekend totals of other films, it isn’t performing as bad.

“Snow White” is below “Dumbo” but still above “Maleficent: Mistress of Evil,” “101 Dalmations” and more, not adjusted for inflation. For example, the Maleficent film would be closer to $80 million now. “101 Dalmations” from 1996 would be almost $130 million in 2025.

No matter how you look at it, “Snow White” is a flop. Globally, the film has made about $143 million on a budget of $270 million before marketing costs and theater cuts. Break-even estimates for the film are between $500- $600 million. But some feel the film won’t even make $250 – $300 million before it’s pulled from theaters. Meaning that Disney could lose between $250-$350 million on the film.

The best chance for “Snow White” is if the international market picks up like it did with Pixar’s “Elemental.” With “Minecraft” releasing on April 4, it’s unlikely the domestic box office will generate hundreds of millions more.
