Snow White Rachel Zegler Disney

Snow White May Have a Huge Issue. Audiences Don’t Seem To Want It. Mostly Due To Rachel Zegler.

File this one under opinion, but anecdotally I’m seeing a trend with potential Disney’s “Snow White” audiences and it isn’t good. Overall the majority of comments and likes I’m reading imply that people are over the film before it even releases and the biggest complaints are the behavior of the lead actress Rachel Zelger and the really awful dwarf CGI.

Audiences are speaking out against the film or simply don’t care.

Here are some comments I’ve seen. I will only use initials for the commentors names.

I love Snow White, but I hate how she has interviewed and represented this movie.” -HFH

lol I won’t go anywhere near this movie with her in it.” – DJS

Nope. Their lead actress has done nothing but bad mouth the original movie. In return she has sabotaged this one.” -ALH

Nope. Hard pass thanks to her attitude“- JR

No, I’ll stay with Walt’s original.” -CBR

It’s a version of Snow White, and there are other versions out there as well. I’m sure there will be more. The actress is quite rude and disrespectful so I can’t say I’m looking forward to it.” -NT

Not after that spoiled entitled non talent tirade.” -DM

Many say they will not pay for it theaters but will watch when it’s “free” on Disney+ streaming they already pay for.

I wont go to a theater to see it but once it’s streaming I may watch it. I see there’s been a lot of controversy over it but I’ll give it a chance.” -KCN

Won’t go to the theaters but once streaming, will give it a try.” – RG

Will probably wait to see it for free on streaming platforms. Don’t know if it’s worth spending the time and money to see it at the theatre based on its reputation.” -JA

There are some who want to see it, but they are overwhelmingly outnumbered.

The film has been seemingly doomed from the beginning.

Disney has had issues with this film from the beginning. Initially, people were surprised when they cast Zegler as Snow White, given the well-known reason for her name.  But she can sing so okay.
Then we had the infamous Peter Dinklage accusations about the representation of people with dwarfism. However, he believed they lived in caves for the story, which was not true. Disney’s response was to say that they were replacing the dwarfs with “seven magical creatures.” That went over even worse and angered many actors with dwarfism who might have had a good job in a high profile film.

After this the set caught on fire.

Images were leaked of seven “bandits” instead of dwarfs. Disney did say these were stand-ins and not the dwarfs from the film.

Rachel Zegler has been a liability for a while.

Casting issues and arguments about race aside, Rachel Zegler has been a wrecking ball to this film, even prompting brand experts to say she was a liability.

At D23 2022, she commented that the original film was “weird” and that the prince “stalks her.” She also said it wasn’t 1937 anymore.

“I just mean that it’s no longer 1937. We absolutely wrote a ‘Snow White’ that … she’s not going to be saved by the prince, and she’s not going to be dreaming about true love; she’s going to be dreaming about becoming the leader she knows she can be and that her late father told her that she could be if she was fearless, fair, brave and true.”

In regard to the “stalker” prince in “Snow White” she said,

“We have a different approach to what I’m sure a lot of people will assume is a love story just because we cast a guy in the movie. It’s really not about the love story at all, which is really, really wonderful.”

After that she joked that they could cut out Prince Charming completely. Which was odd.

This did not sit well with audiences and the movie got pushed back and an image with CGI dwarfs was released.

Since then, Zegler has continued to “step in it” by posting “Free Palestine” standing against Israel, from which her co-star Gal Gadot is from. And wishing “no peace” for voters who supported Donald Trump. Those comments were met with an apology that many believe was mandated.

The film isn’t out but the majority of comments seem to be against the film and a lot of the reasons given tie directly to Rachel Zegler. Some do think the dwarfs are awful too.

She is a young actress and wants to use her platform for something she believes in. However, if she wants to stay in the business she needs to tone it down.

I think the damage for the live-action “Snow White” has been done. The budget was already enormous before they pushed it back, rumored reshoots, and CGI work.  Frankly the dwarfs look terrible.

Disney is likely going to lose big time on this one.
