Snow White

Snow White Ends 4th Weekend At #8 and Gets Beaten By “The King of Kings”

It is likely the end for “Snow White” at the box office. The film’s fourth weekend only made $2.8 million domestically and landed #8 out of the top 10. It was even beaten by a new biblical animated film, “The King of Kings,” which came in second place at $17.6 million domestically.

“The King of Kings” made more in its opening weekend than “Snow White” made in its second weekend ($14.3 million) and almost as much as the Disney film made in its second and third week combined ($20.2 million).

While good news for “The King of Kings” it’s terrible news for a Disney legacy IP film.

Disney probably should pull the film from theaters at this point because it won’t pull in much more money.

“Minecraft” is sucking the oxygen out of the box office and will come in at another 80+ million domestic weekend. Ironically, “Snow White” has finally moved over $80 million domestically this weekend, and “Minecraft” made that in its second weekend.

Already the number of domestic theaters carrying “Snow White” had dropped from 4,200 to 2,540.

It’s over and this film is a certified box office flop.

It’s very unlikely “Snow White” will hit $100 million domestically, or $200 million globally.

The film itself reportedly cost around $270 million before marketing and theatrical cuts. This means it had to make between $500-$600 million to break even.

When the film was clearly not working and the budget was getting out of control, Disney should have scrapped it instead of throwing more money at it.

Fans would have understood if they said that they changed their mind and couldn’t do justice to the animated film that made the Walt Disney Company what it is today. Instead, they tripled down on the mistakes and released the film.

Not only did they release it, but they released it only a couple of weeks ahead of “Minecraft.” “Snow White” was never going to have enough time to take off even if it turned out to be really good. It was mid. You can read my review here.

It’s time to let the film stay asleep. No one is coming to give it a true love’s kiss.
