Snow White Box Office Tracking For $65 Million 3-Day Opening. Still Seems Too High.

Disney’s live-action “Snow White” will be released to theaters on March 21, 2025, and the early box office predictions are not good. According to Deadline, the film is only tracking for a $65-$68 million three-day opening.  It’s especially bad when we know the budget is likely over $270 million, too.

The issues with “Snow White” are many.

For starters, Disney has overstayed the live-action remake / reimagining welcome. People are getting tired of these films.

I think “Lilo and Stitch” may do alright, but overall, viewers want new stories that feel “Disney.”

Another strike against the film is the terrible CGI dwarfs.

Disney refused to hire actors with dwarfism, especially after Peter Dinklage said that the film was going “fu*king backward” in representing dwarfs.

Now, we are left with some serious, uncanny valley-looking characters.

Rachel Zegler

Perhaps the biggest reason people are not wanting to see this film is Rachel Zegler.  Zegler plays the titular character in the film and has found many ways to offend the potential audience.

From calling the prince a “stalker” to saying that there is no love story in the film anymore.

Then she said that Trump voters should know no peace.

During the Hollywood strikes, she insisted that she should be paid more to wear the dress, while much lower-paid Cast Members wore the Snow White dress with pride every day. Plus, they have to deal with the public and not be pampered in a trailer.

“If I’m gonna stand there 18 hours a day in the dress of an iconic Disney princess, I deserve to be paid for every hour that it’s streamed online.”

The backlash over this film has even led to a parody song being made about the trailer’s comments.

People hated the trailer so much that it has far more downvotes than upvotes.

Some are even arguing that the virality of the backlash means that it is doing well?

Is RelishMix trying to say that the engagement and virality of “Snow White” mean that it is strong?
The numbers come from everyone literally making fun of the film and hating on it.

“Per social media stats firm RelishMix, Snow White currently counts a reach of 279M followers with no X or Instagram so far. One video on TikTok has 9.2M boosted views. Currently, Snow White‘s reach on social is 2% above other family live-action movies. Snow White YouTube videos are counting 141M views so far with a strong viral rate of 47:1.”

All of this makes me think that maybe the $65 million opening total could be too high. Unless people come out of pure curiosity, it doesn’t seem likely.  Many who want to see it might actually wait for Disney+ as well.
