Snow White Allegedly Tracking for $100 Million GLOBAL Debut

Tomorrow, “Snow White” will move to previews, and already the headlines have gone from saying the box office estimates are dropping to saying it will be a $100 million debut. However, it isn’t as it appears, and that $100 million total is for a global box office debut.

What are the domestic and global box office predictions for this film?

The estimates for the film dropped from $65 – $85 million several weeks ago to $53 million at the end of February, and now they are sitting at $45 – $50 million right before the film releases to theaters.  The lower range puts it just above the 2019 film “Dumbo” for its opening ($45.9 million domestic.)

Current estimates make it the lowest Disney Princess live-action film to debut.

“Snow White” will be released to 4,200 domestic theaters, which is a large number. That many theaters make the low estimates seem even worse.

Internationally, the film is estimated to bring in about $50 million from all the markets it will release to. Again, not great.

How bad would a $100 million opening be?

If it comes in at the estimated $100 million, that is below their biggest flop in recent years, “The Marvels,” which did $110.3 million globally.

“The Marvels” had a much smaller budget of only $200 million compared to estimates of $260-$270+ million for “Snow White.”

It would beat “Elemental,” which had a global opening weekend of $74 million. However, that film went on to earn over $425 million globally and did make some money.

If the film is good and receives good word-of-mouth, it could slowly grow like “Elemental” did. However, it is estimated that “Snow White” needs to bring in about $675 million to break even.

The review embargo ends today at 3PM so we may get a better idea of what the critics think. Usually, people ignore those reviews and wait to hear from friends and family before spending money on a film they can watch on Disney+ in a few months anyway.
