DreamWorks’ Shrek Makes A Mess In New PowerWash Simulator DLC

Sometimes, some of the most popular games around are really strange ones that make you question whether or not they are real. The game PowerWash Simulator lets players visit multiple expansive and colorful environments that are, unfortunately, all covered in dirt. The objective is to painstakingly clean every last inch of the level to make it nice and shiny.

Released in 2022, the game was developed by FuturLabs and published by Square Enix. It has reportedly sold over 3 million copies. 

Now, in an ironic twist of fate, one of the messiest characters of all time will have his swamp made squeaky clean in the new DLC pack for the game. A collaboration between DreamWorks and FuturLabs will add various locations from the popular Shrek franchise to be cleaned up.

The official announcement reads: “Playtime is ogre. Get to work cleaning up five fairy tale maps inspired by DreamWorks Animation’s Shrek. It’ll take more than pixie dust to restore these iconic locales to their former lustre, but thankfully, happily ever after is in your hands!“

The DLC pack adds five locations from the films: Shrek’s Swamp, Dragon’s Lair, Dulac, Fairy Godmother’s Potion Factory, and Hansel’s Honeymoon Highway. Sadly, there is no Kingdom of Far, Far Away, but perhaps that would have been too large of a map.

PowerWash Simulator players will also be able to wear a knightly set of armor in a new character skin for the Shrek DLC.

This is not the first licensed DLC for the game. Previous collaborations include SpongeBob SquarePants, Back to the Future, Final Fantasy VII, and Tomb Raider. Given the game’s popularity, this most likely won’t be the last. There was an “Alice’s Adventures” pack; however, it was based on the public domain Alice in Wonderland book and not any other adaptations.
