Ryan Coogler Confirms “Black Panther 3” Is His Next Movie

“Black Panther 3” is moving forward according to Ryan Coogler. Disney and Marvel are going to continue doubling down on the MCU even with struggles at the box office.

The director made the announcement during a panel at Deadline Contenders.

“If it was anybody but you, I would say, ‘I can neither confirm or deny. But we’re working at it..we’re working on it hard….Yeah, it’s the next movie.”

The second Black Panther film “Wakanda Forever” made $859.2 million globally, with a budget of $200-$250 million. It only needed $400-$500 million to break even, meaning the film turned a good profit for Disney and Marvel.

“Black Panther” was the first film and it did incredibly well, earning over $1.3 billion at the box office.

Marvel has since been floundering at the box office, with even “Fantastic Four: First Steps” underperforming making only $521 million globally on a $200+ million budget. It might not make any money.

Good news is that “Black Panther 3” is happening. Bad news is the box office is stalling and Marvel fatigue has set in.

Hopefully it performs much better than “The Marvels”, “Captain America: Brave New World (likely a $100 million+ loss), “The Thunderbolts (likely a $100 million loss), ” “Fantastic Four: First Steps”, etc.

Unless it’s something incredibly epic that everyone feels is a theatrical “must see” I’m not sure how it will do.

“Black Panther 3” is rumored to release in 2028, with production starting in 2027. But nothing has been announced or confirmed, other than Coogler telling an audience during a panel.
