Rumor: Universal Orlando Furloughing More Team Members

We are hearing that there are more furloughs over at Universal Orlando. Now team members in the parks, outside the hotel furloughs we already heard about, are getting notices. Those that have been there a year or so and are full time have reportedly gotten notice and if the weekday attendance doesn’t improve soon it will extend out to those who have been there longer.

I don’t have numbers yet on how many have been impacted by this new round of furloughs, or how long they expect to last, but I am hearing that they did happen. The ones I know of happened yesterday.

Florida is taking a huge hit to their tourism industry and Orlando is really getting hit as theme parks are not seeing the number of guests needed to bounce back quickly. Park hours are being cut, a lot of hotels are still closed, or have closed again at some theme park locations.

People are afraid to travel and international travel has hit a huge slump as a lot of countries are prohibiting travel to the United States.

It’s gotten so bad that Visit Orlando is launching a new marketing campaign targeting Florida residents to encourage travel inside the state. Hoping if it’s driving distance more Floridians will travel and spend money. This is why we are seeing huge deals for Florida residence at the theme parks.

The workers just want life to go back to normal so they can do what they love. As a friend of mine said “We just want to get back to normal already and get back to making kids and families happy.
