It is no secret that the remake of the beloved video game classic Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic has been having a number of unfavorable reports since its announcement in late 2021. After it was revealed to be delayed, multiple stories about behind the scenes drama at the game’s publisher began to come out.
From the first developer for the game being fired, to the string of multiple flops to even removing the first reveal trailer off of YouTube many fans have been left with the question of if the game will ever release.
Recently, industry insider Jeff Grubb of Giant Bomb spoke on the Game Mess Morning show stated the following “update” during the podcast:
“I just want to clear it up, this game is not being worked on right now. Just full stop. This game is not being worked on in any way, at any studio.“
However, since then another insider, Jason Schreier of Bloomberg, has come out and given an apparent update saying that at least two people are still working on the game. He said:
“Can’t say whether the KOTOR Remake will ever actually ‘come out’, but yes, two people from Saber Interactive tell me they’re still on it, despite recent rumors that nobody is working on the game. (Saber took the project from Aspyr last year, as Bloomberg reported then)“
The game’s publisher, The Embracer Group, became rather irresponsible when it came to their spending. Afterward, they had to make multiple cutbacks and it is believed that certain projects will need to be canceled. It is unknown if the KOTOR Remake will eventually meet this fate.
Even though there is a chance that we may never see this remake come to life, the original 2003 game can still be enjoyed in its entirety today on PCs, Xbox, and the Nintendo Switch.
