RUMOR: The Rey “Star Wars” Movie Is In Trouble?

ATTENTION: THE FOLLOWING RPEORT IS A RUMOR. PLEASE TAKE THE FOLLOWING STORY WITH A GRAIN OF SALT.

After the recent cancelation of the Star Wars streaming series The Acolyte, many have wondered what is going on behind the scenes at Lucasfilm. Multiple projects that were announced have either been pushed back or outright forgotten. The Kevin Feige Star Wars project is practically dead, the Pattey Jenkins Rogue Squadron film is in flux, and the Taika Waititi Star Wars project is also being called into question. And we all know that the Rain Johnson trilogy has turned to dust.

As of right now, the next main Star Wars film to be released in theaters is The Mandalorian & Grogu, a continuation of the one popular Disney+ series The Mandalorian. While not much is known about the plot of the movie, we can only assume that it takes place after the third season of the show.

Another major film project, codenamed The New Jedi Order, would see Rey return as she begins a new Jedi Order sometime after the events of The Rise of Skywalker. However, not much has been heard about the film’s progress for some time.

According to well-known insider Daniel Richtman, aka DanielRPK, the film is now “on hold.” While originally set to begin filming later this year, filming will apparently start as soon as next year.

Earlier this summer, actress Daisy Ridley stated that there was still no final script. The lack of a proper fileable script could be a contributing factor to the delay. Damon Lindeloff was originally brought on to pen the screenplay but was apparently “asked to leave” following creative differences (no surprise there). Not to mention the controversy surrounding comments made by the film’s current director, Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy. Things have not gone well for the production.

The fate of the film is currently uncertain. With Disney wanting to focus on making crowd-pleasing films again and not wanting to risk losing the audience, perhaps it is time for Lucasfilm to learn to let go of their sequel trilogy and focus on what made the franchise so loved in the first place.

What do you think? Will the Rey Palpatine movie ever get made? Or will it be lost to the dark side? Let us know your thoughts.
