RUMOR: Spider-Man Noir Series Suffering From Budget Dispute

ATTENTION: THE FOLLOWING REPORT IS A RUMOR. PLEASE TAKE THE FOLLOWING STORY WITH A GRAIN OF SALT.

Things are not so certain in the world of SONY’s Spider-Verse franchise as its last two live-action films, 2022’s Morbius and 2024’s Madame Web, are considered some of the worst movies in the superhero genre with low box office returns to match. Their only real significant successes have been in collaboration with Marvel Studios and their animated Miles Morales movies.

In a move to try and expand beyond the silver screen, they decided to expand into the world of television by green-lighting multiple showwith Amazon. The first is Silk: Spider Society, which focuses on the character of Cindy Moon, aka Silk. The second series is based on the Spider-Man Noir character.

However, even in the world of television, the Spider-Verse is not safe. Multiple movies, like the El Muerto solo film, have been canceled, and now the Silk series has been scrapped as well. Now, even the Spider-Man Noir series is apparently at risk.

According to a recent story by Puck News, two of the series’ producers, Phil Lord and Chris Miller, the duo behind the first two animated Spider-Verse movies, are currently having budget disputes with SONY Television over the show’s budget. The disagreement is apparently so severe that SONY is considering not renewing their five-year partnership agreement with Lord and Miller, which originally began in 2019.

This is not the first time these two have been connected to controversy surrounding Spider-Man. In 2023, multiple animators came forward to discuss what they described as poor working conditions on Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse as Phil Lord frequently requested changes despite large amounts of work already being done.

While the series is still set to begin production with Nicholas Cage set to star it isn’t known if it will eventually be canceled as well.

What do you think? Will the Spider-Man Noir television eventually become reality? Or will it end up being left in the dark? Let us know your thoughts.
