RUMOR: SONY To Replace Venom With Agent Venom Going Forward?

ATTENTION: THE FOLLOWING REPORT IS A RUMOR. PLEASE TAKE THE FOLLOWING STORY WITH A GRAIN OF SALT.

SONY’s latest installment of their expanded universe of Spider-Verse films, Venom: The Last Dance, is doing rather well at the moment. After nearly two weeks at the box office the movie has made $319 million against a budget of $160 million. Most of the box office, however, is thanks to the overseas market which the franchise has done rather well in.

Now, with the end of this trilogy, not much is known about what the future holds as the titular alien antihero… well… kinda dies at the end. The alien symbiotic sacrifices itself to protect the Earth from the villainous Knull (who was teased to be a major threat in the franchise’s future). However, without Venom, who will step up to battle the forces of evil?

Well, according to well-known industry insider Daniel Richtman, aka @DanielRPK on Twitter/X, SONY is looking at having the franchise shift from the alien with otherworldly powers to… Spider-Man mixed with The Punisher? That’s right, Flash Thompson, aka Agent Venom.

Flash Thompson is a well-known recurring character from the Spider-Man franchise. He is Peter Parker’s high school bully. It wasn’t until The Amazing Spider-Man #654 in April 2011 that he became an alien-powered super soldier. After serving in the Iraq War, Flash became bonded to the symbiote, making him a spider-powered commando.

Since this is a rumor, it isn’t known how SONY would go about doing this. Will they have a new actor play Flash Thompson? Or will they somehow rope Tony Revolori from the Tom Holland Spider-Man movies in? Whatever the case, making this big of a change is sure a gamble when it is your most successful non-Spider-Man franchise.

What do you think? Will Agent Venom take the spotlight? Will SONY’s Spider-Verse continue to co-exist with the MCU? Or will the series fade into shadow? Let us know your thoughts.
