Rumor- Josh D’Amaro To Scrap Current Villains Land Plans

File this one under rumor for sure. Nothing is official, but they are saying Josh D’Amaro wants to scrap the current plans for the Villains Land expansion at the Magic Kingdom.

What lends this rumor some credence is that it came from Len Testa on a Jim Hill Media podcast; they are both people I take seriously.

Don’t freak out yet, he is keeping Villains Land but wants to go bigger and scarier.

According to rumors, Imagineering has been told to start over with “bigger and bolder ideas.”

Since we don’t know much about the land, other than early concept art, it would be easy to change some things.

Initially, there was going to be a roller coaster and a “dark ride” that would be more family-friendly. But that is all we knew. So changing it would not cause fans to get angry or complain, since we didn’t know much anyway.

However, a lot of fans are skeptical as permits have already been filed. Some feel it’s too late to make changes. But what if it expanded out further and added more attractions or made changes to non-essential ride elements? Keeping the ride system but changing the sets.

If they were going to change things, now is the time, as it is only on the site prep phase of construction.  While D’Amaro isn’t yet the CEO, he is still in charge of theme parks and experiences, so theoretically, he could still pull something like this off ahead of taking over the company.

Basically, we don’t know for sure. But if it’s coming from Len Testa, I am more likely to believe there is truth to it.

Frankly, I hope it’s true. A larger Villains Land with “bigger and bolder ideas” sounds amazing! I would even settle for a cool dragon, as they have in Disneyland Paris.
