RUMOR: John Leguizamo Says That Ice Age 6 Is In Development

ATTENTION: THE FOLLOWING REPORT IS A RUMOR. PLEASE TAKE THE FOLLOWING STORY WITH A GRAIN OF SALT.

Three years after its shutdown, the legacy of BlueSky Studios is somewhat being forgotten within the animation community. Originally the successor to the defunct Fox Animation Studios, BlueSky Studios was one of the earliest companies to work with 3D animation. Founded in 1987, they worked on multiple commercials and short films. They made movies like RobotsEpic, the Rio series, and The Peanuts Movie. But perhaps they were best known for the Ice Age series.

From 2002 – 2016, the Ice Age series consisted of five theatrical films with over $3.2 Billion in profit, making it one of the most successful animated movie franchises of all time.

The series technically finished with the fifth film, Collision Course, when it performed far lower than previous entries.

However, the original series ended when Disney acquired BlueSky’s parent company, 20th Century Fox, in 2019. Many assumed that BlueSky would be relegated to making movies for the then-upcoming Disney+ streaming service, but those hopes were dashed when the studio closed its doors in 2021.

A spin-off movie, The Ice Age Adventures of Buck Wild, was released directly to Disney+ in 2022 with almost none of the original cast returning, and the animation is getting a significant downgrade as it was outsourced to Bardem Entertainment.

But now it appears that this pre-history franchise might not be extinct after all. According to a recent appearance by John Leguizamo (the voice of Sid the Sloth) NPR another movie may be in development. When discussing his role as the iconic character, he blurted out, “We’re about to do Ice Age 6“.

While there has been no official announcement, the project will most likely be in very early development if it ends up being real. It isn’t even known which studio would most likely handle the animation, which cast members would be willing to return, or what would be next for the band of misfits. While there were hints that Diego (Denis Leary) and Shira (Jennifer Lopez) may want to be parents, we can only wait to see what happens if the new film ends up being released.

What do you think? Is it time to crack open the glacier and revive the Ice Age franchise? Or should it be left frozen like so many other dead franchises? Let us know your thoughts.
