RUMOR: Gareth Edwards Eyed To Direct Thor 5 For Marvel

ATTENTION: THE FOLLOWING REPORT IS A RUMOR. PLEASE TAKE THE FOLLOWING STORY WITH A GRAIN OF SALT.

Earlier this month it was reported that former Thor 3 and Thor 4 director Taika Waititi would be seeping away from the series. He stated in an interview that he most likely wouldn’t be involved with the unannounced Thor 5 due to scheduling reasons. Though him not returning may be due to 2022’s Thor: Love & Thunder being a disappointment at the box office.

The director, once credited with breathing new life into the series following Thor: Ragnarok, has now found himself disliked by many Marvel fans. He recently came forward in an interview saying that he didn’t even like Marvel but only directed the film to “feed his children.” Currently, he is working on an untitled Star Wars project.

Now, many wonder who would step up to the plate and take over the Thor series after the last film hinted at Marvel’s Hercules being the primary antagonist in the next film. Some have thought that Kenneth Branagh, the director of the first film, would return. However, it appears that someone else is being considered.

According to insider DanielRPK, Gareth Edwards, known for directing 2010’s Monsters, 2014’s Godzilla, 2016’s Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, and 2023’s The Creator, is being considered to take over. The belief is that Marvel wants to go for a darker and more serious tone for the next film after the negative reaction to the goofy tone of the last film.

Edwards, while considered a good director, has a history with Disney being the director of Rogue One. However, his original film cut was rejected, and a large portion was reshot under different guidance. So, it is unknown if a similar situation may occur.

Of course, it’s all just a rumor right now.

What do you think? Would Edwards be the right guy to bring Thor back to a more serious tone? Or should it be someone else?
