RUMOR: Disney Delayed Snow White Remake To Avoid Disaster

ATTENTION: THE FOLLOWING REPORT IS A RUMOR. PLEASE TAKE THE FOLLOWING STORY WITH A GRAIN OF SALT.

The upcoming Live-Action Remake of 1937’s Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs has caused quite a bit of controversy. First surrounding its casting, then surrounding their decision not to hire dwarf actors, then the lead actress constantly throwing shade at the original film and then the leaked set photos. Not to mention another Live-Action Snow White being made by The Daily Wire and released in 2024.

Now, in what seems to be a desperate turn of events, Disney has decided to delay the film from its 2024 release to 2025 to completely rework the film to appeal to the masses after online ridicule. While some may try to say that Disney planned this all along, a rumored source via The Daily Mail claims to have information on why Disney changed course so quickly.

The source stated:

Disney had to delay Snow White because they have spent so much money on it, and if it is a financial disaster at the box office, it might single-handedly cripple future remakes and potential Snow White sequels that they have planned.

They also have to remove themselves from the bad taste in the mouths of online critics and want to instead deliver a great film and get to a point where they get it right. They realize that they were overthinking things and are now reigning it all in a little bit more.

The source also claims that the company is looking to the 2019 Tom Hooper-directed film Cats as a template for what to avoid, as that film was both a critical and financial failure. They also mentioned that Disney has already spent $330 Million on the film, indicating it will need to make at least double the cost after rework to break even.

However, other sources have stated that the dwarfs were always intended to be included in the film, and they are a separate group from the “bandits.”

Given that Zegler herself has told the story about when she auditioned. During her audition the names in the script were of other characters, and not the Dwarfs, but the director let her know that the character was Dopey, it makes sense. That doesn’t change the fact that they didn’t hire actors with dwarfism to play the parts and instead opted for CGI characters.

Either way the current backlash this film is receiving, along with the recent string of failures of other recent Live-Action Remakes, shows that audiences are seemingly over the now-tired trend. Making over $1 Billion at the box office is no longer a guarantee.

We will see how this delay and possible change in direction affect the overall reception.
