Review: Peanut Butter and Jelly Cake Gideon’s Bakehouse Disney Springs

One of my Orlando theme park friends made her first trip to Walt Disney World recently. This adventure started by visiting Disney Springs. So, where do you think she went first? As the title of this article most likely indicates, a trip to Gideon’s Bakehouse was first on itinerary. However, Gideon’s Bakehouse continues to develop a long queue for the decadent treats served here. Also, this bakery continues to crank out high quality monthly specialty cookies and cake. In May, the innocent sounding Peanut Butter and Jelly cake shines as the limited time cake of the month.

According to Gideon’s Bakehouse website, this limited-edition cake provides perfection in its simplicity. Guests enjoy three layers of their delicate vanilla cake. This “white” cake serves as the bread for this super sweet “sandwich.” The cake then gets smothered in “Peanut Butter Buttercream.” After that, each section of the cake gets filled with peanut butter and grape jelly. Gideon’s Bakehouse website claims this cake will make you smile.

A slice of this cake will cost you $9. Perhaps, you might feel $9, even on Walt Disney World property, sounds very high for a piece of cake. Regarding this cake, I have asked many people if it is worth the hype. Remember my friend visiting Disney Springs for the first time? She ordered this cake. In addition, she enjoyed this cake with some help from my spouse. I messaged her the same question about whether this $9 was worth the hype. The exact response reads like this “I am a peanut butter icing connoisseur, and this was, by far, the best peanut butter icing I’ve ever had!”

I lack being able to give a better endorsement that that. However, several of my Orlando theme park friends currently make or have made a living as bakers. I often defer to them on certain bakery items. I will defer to this previous comment about the best peanut butter icing. However, this makes a poor review unless I give you a few more details.

The cake tastes and looks light and moist. Also, the hint of vanilla within the cake itself provides a nice platform for the more powerful flavors. The ordinary sounding grape jelly provides just the right amount of flavor to enhance other ingredients. You have already read the quote about the icing so I will let that comment stand.

Looks like they enjoyed that piece of cake

I know my parents would not have approved of this as an everyday lunch. Still, the sweetness of this peanut butter and jelly cake reminded many of a basic comfort meal as a kid. Also, you do not need to be a kid to love PB&J sandwiches. Even if a PB&J sandwich fails to create childhood memories, this cake will provide wonderful new memories of goodness. Hurry, this cake goes away being replaced with a new cake in June.

As always, eat like you mean it!
