Review: Are the Crab Topped Fries at Paddlefish One of the Best Appetizers at Disney Springs?

An appetizer we keep going back to repeatedly is the Crab Topped Fries at Paddlefish Restaurant Disney Springs. We have begun wondering if these are some of the best appetizers at Walt Disney World.

For guests familiar with Disney Springs, the Paddlefish Restaurant makes a solid landmark. The restaurant looks like an old-fashioned paddlewheel boat. With three floors, this restaurant strikes quite a pose at Disney Springs.

We enjoy visiting here on a weekday since Paddlefish offers a lunch menu. The ability to find a quality lunch menu at Disney Spring functions as a positive. However, Crab Topped Fries appear on the lunch and dinner menus. On several occasions, we have ordered these as a part of our meal.

Crab Topped Fries – $18.00

During an October trip to Paddlefish, we ordered the Crab Topped Fries again. We wanted to share them with some friends in town for a few days. This friend group usually visits The Boathouse Restaurant, also in Disney Springs. A change of pace was suggested.

Crab Topped Fries function as a simple appetizer. The ingredients of this appetizer tasted fresh. The menu description reflects the simple nature of this starter. Paddlefish lists only skin-on fries, blue crab, and “Louie” dressing as ingredients to form this mixture.

If you are unfamiliar with Louie-style dressing, this generally appears on crab and shrimp dishes. For example, if you see a Crab Louie salad or Shrimp Louie on a menu, then it will use this style of sauce. You may also find this sauce used for reuben sandwiches. This sauce normally contains mayonnaise, red chili sauce, mined green onions, and green chili peppers.

This Visit

During this visit, we really enjoyed this appetizer. In fact, the version we tasted recently might be the best one we have ever had at Paddlefish. This is why we asked if these were some of the best appetizers at Walt Disney World.

These fries came with plenty of that sauce. A reasonable amount of crab existed with this appetizer also. The crab flavor matched well with the fries and sauce. On this day, the crab brought an excellent flavor and tasted of excellent quality. When paired with the Louie sauce, the crab tasted even better. Though we understand that this might not be the highest level of crab, we enjoyed the quality of the crab with this appetizer.

A pleasant surprise involved the quality of the fries compared to the standard fries at Walt Disney World. This example shows how third-party restaurants on Disney property often provide guests with something beyond standard Disney food.

The Crab Topped Fries provide an easy appetizer to share among a few people. Our dining companions referred to this appetizer as an excellent hangover style of food. We hope that gives some idea of the balance of flavors within this appetizer. As you might imagine, we will order it again on a future visit.
