Release Date Revealed For The Star Wars: Dark Forces Remaster!

I couldn’t believe it when Mr. Milo wrote an article about Nightdive Studios remastering Star Wars: Dark Forces. Disney hasn’t shown much love to the LucasArts era games. It was like a dream! One that will soon become a reality!

Tech Radar, via MSN, reported that the release date for the much anticipated remaster of the ’95 Kyle Katarn adventure was just around the corner. Star Wars: Dark Forces will return with a new coat of paint on February 28, 2024!

The reworked classic LucasArts title will land on all the major platforms with 4K resolution and 120 FPS. Those features will depend on the system you purchase the game for, of course. So, choose wisely from XBOX One, XBOX Series X|S, PS4, PS5, Nintendo Switch, and Steam.

“Star Wars™: Dark Forces Remaster has been brought to life by the team at Nightdive Studios, fully remastered through its proprietary KEX engine, allowing the game to run on modern gaming devices at up to 4K resolution at 120FPS. New and returning players will enjoy Star Wars: Dark Forces Remaster’s upgraded gameplay, high-resolution textures, enhanced lighting and rendering, and support for gamepads.”

Although the game does feature some updated cutscenes and better performance, don’t expect an entire retooling. The core game is still the same, flaws and all.

Before Rogue One rewrote the canon, Dark Forces told the story of ex-Jedi and mercenary Kyle Katarn, who was responsible for securing the plans for the first Death Star. The game took us on an adventure to several locations not seen in the films and set up a character who would star in some of LucasArts’ most outstanding Expanded Universe titles (Jedi Outcast and Jedi Academy).

The original can still be purchased, in case you want that pure nostalgic feel without all the modern upgrades. The game is only $5.99 on Steam.
