Radiator Springs Racers “Closed for Refurbishment”

At Disney’s California Adventure, fan favorite attraction, Radiator Springs Racers, has been closed for seven days and has not opened today operation. Currently, on the Disneyland app, Radiator Springs Racers is listed as Closed for Refurbishment.

The last day it operated, May 24, 2022, guests reported seeing smoke coming from one of the race cars as it crossed the finish line at the end of the attraction. The attraction has been closed since then with no opening date in sight.

The OC Register quoted a Disneyland spokesperson as it being an issue with a single ride vehicle. Additionally, the OC Register reported that the attraction would not be operating out of an abundance of caution. The Disney spokesperson also stated that ride vehicles on Radiator Springs Racers may be testing empty, but park going guests have not reported seeing any activity at the attraction. Outside of the attraction, cast members are playing cornhole with park guests, pin trading, and giving out stickers.

Radiator Springs Racers is such a fun attraction at Disney’s California Adventure. On the attraction, guests ride along in vehicles as they ready themselves for a race and then, race against another vehicle in Radiator Springs. This attraction is one of the big draws to California Adventure along with the new Avengers Campus.

Attractions go down all the time at theme parks, but usually they are scheduled for maintenance. This is an unscheduled “closed for refurbishment” for Radiator Springs Racers. I’m sure Disney is working hard on this attraction, and that the downtime of more than a week is for good reason. When more information becomes available about the operating status of Radiator Springs Racers, we will be sure to report it.
