Rachel Zegler Name One of Glamour UK’s “Women of the Year”

Glamour Magazine UK has recently announced their “Women of the Year” for 2025.  The women are recognized for their “recognized for their impact across entertainment and media.”

At first, I thought it was an odd choice until I read that it was based on impact and was reminded of the old saying, “There’s no such thing as bad publicity.”

Zegler definitely had an impact, just not in a positive way for Disney.

It’s also the UK version of the magazine, and frankly, the UK has gone off the deep end politically as of late, so this all tracks.

What did Zegler do to deserve this honor?

Well, that is the question, isn’t it?

Zegler’s “impact” can be boiled down to two things.

  1. Box office failure.
  2. Activisim
Box office failure

Her last films have underperformed at the box office.

“Shazam! Fury of the Gods” only made $134 million on an $123 million budget before marketing, theatrical profits, etc.  The rule of thumb for this metric is 2X-2.5X the box office take to break even.  To be fair, her part was relatively small and didn’t really have much impact on this film’s performance.

“Snow White” is a different story.

“Snow White” was an epic failure at $205.5 million globally on a $270-$350 million budget. Domestically, the film barely broke $87 million, and this loss has been mostly attributed to Zegler’s behavior.

The film had issues outside of the actress, with the creepy CGI dwarfs and the changes to the original story, but Zegler was at the center of most controversy surrounding it.

How did activism get Zegler into trouble? How did it harm the “Snow White” film?

The list is long, but I will summarize.

1. She mocked the original film at the D23 event in 2022.

She claimed the original film was dated and that her version of Snow White was going to be a leader.  It was also implied that the prince was “weird” and a stalker.

Many “Snow White” fans weren’t happy to hear that.

2. She posted “Free Palestine” on social media.

At first, this doesn’t sound like a big deal because a lot of celebrities were making similar comments about this. However, her co-star, Gal Gadot, is Israeli, and this reportedly led to Gadot and her family receiving death threats, and Disney had to pay for extra protection for them.

Her comments also seemed to have caused the “Snow White” producer to fly from LA to New York to have a conversation with Zegler about her social media behavior and the impact on the film.

3. She wished “no peace” to Trump and his supporters after he won the 2024 election.

When Trump beat Kamala Harris in 2024, Zegler had a long meltdown on social media where she wished ill to over half the domestic audience and ended with “f*ck donald trump.”

(One of the real travesties is her lack of capitalization.)

This did not go over very well with the prospective audience or Disney. She was made to apologize.

It was likely a prepared statement as she suddenly knew how to use capitalization.

“I let my emotions get the best of me. Hatred and anger have caused us to move further and further away from peace and understanding, and I am sorry I contributed to the negative discourse.

This week has been emotional for so many of us, but I firmly believe that everyone has the right to their opinion, even when it differs from my own. I am committed to contributing positively toward a better tomorrow.”

By the time “Snow White” was released in early 2025, the potential audience wanted nothing to do with it. Many were tired of Zegler’s constant activism, and the film simply didn’t look good.
