Pirates Actor Kevin McNally Says There Is No Pirates Without Jack

The current state of the Multi-Billion Dollar franchise, Pirates of the Caribbean, is in a state of constant flux. Some say it’s dead, others say it’s on hold. The major issue is surrounding who will be the lead going forward.

Longtime actor Johnny Depp is in an ongoing legal battle with his ex-wife Amber Heard over damages made to his career through her accusations of abuse. So far the legal battle cost him his role in the Fantastic Beasts franchise at Warner Bros. as well as some other projects. But his role as Captain Jack Sparrow is perhaps the one role the most in danger of being lost. One of his most iconic roles next to Edward Scissorhands and the Live Action Alice in Wonderland.

Recently Pirates Co-Star Kevin McNally, known for playing the funny and endearing Joshamee Gibbs, spoke on his experience working with Johnny and is thoughts about the possibility of the series moving on without him.

I see a great humanitarian and a beautiful human being. I don’t see any impediment for him coming back and playing Jack Sparrow. I think there was a general feeling that without Jack there is no Pirates franchise. And there’s probably a lot of truth in that. But now there have been questions about that, certainly why not have other Pirate films and certainly then why not have Jack back or Jack playing a different part.

Many fans agree that Jack Sparrow is the main character. Getting rid of Jack Sparrow from Pirates would be like getting rid of Indiana Jones in his film franchise.

Some reports suggest that Disney may be considering a new hero with the divisive “Red the Pirate” character, but studio execs may be a little worried what the reaction might be if they did that.

Only time will tell if Depp will be welcomed back as the infamous pirate as the series approaches its 20th Anniversary in 2023.
