Olivia Rodrigo’s pink Baja Blast hits Taco Bell nationwide Sept. 24

You Seem Pretty Pink for a Baja Blast has been a four-city exclusive since Aug. 29. It goes nationwide in nine days, and a Rewards-only picnic kit follows on Sept. 29.

Baja Blast is going pink.

Taco Bell rolls out You Seem Pretty Pink for a Baja Blast to restaurants nationwide on Thursday, Sept. 24, after nearly a month as an exclusive in four cities.

It is the first pink version of Mountain Dew Baja Blast the chain has ever made, and it was Olivia Rodrigo‘s idea to the extent that any celebrity collaboration is.

What is You Seem Pretty Pink for a Baja Blast?

Baja Blast’s tropical lime, with pink lemonade notes layered in.

The color is the point. It comes in custom packaging built off the visual style of Rodrigo’s album You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So In Love, which is also where the drink’s unwieldy name comes from.

Rodrigo has been a Baja Blast drinker for years and has never been quiet about it, which is the difference between this and a collaboration assembled in a marketing meeting. In a statement, she said she could not believe the drink is real.

Taco Bell chief marketing officer Luis Restrepo said the partnership went past the beverage itself.

When and where can you get it?

The drink debuted Aug. 29 at Live Más Cafés, Taco Bell’s beverage-focused locations in Southern California, Dallas, Houston and Las Vegas, alongside an activation at Rodrigo’s first Daisy Chain Fields festival in Irvine, California.

It reaches Taco Bell restaurants nationwide on Sept. 24, for a limited time.

Participating Canadian locations get it starting in October.

Nobody has said how long the limited run lasts, which is standard for Taco Bell beverages and generally means somewhere between six weeks and whenever it stops selling.

What is the Pretty Pink Picnic Kit?

A Rewards-only extra, five days after the nationwide launch.

On Sept. 29, Taco Bell Rewards members can enter a Tuesday Drop sweepstakes for a limited-edition Pretty Pink Picnic Kit, which includes a matching blanket and basket.

Sweepstakes entry means it is a chance rather than a purchase, so nobody should plan a trip around it.

Why Taco Bell keeps doing this

Because the beverage business is where fast food is fighting right now.

Live Más Café is Taco Bell’s attempt to build a drinks-first concept that competes with Starbucks and Dutch Bros rather than with other taco places, and this drink is one of the first beverages to start there and then graduate to the full national menu.

That is a product pipeline, not a one-off stunt. Test it in four markets with a built-in fanbase, see whether it moves, then put it in 7,000 restaurants.

It also follows a run of heavy nostalgia and collaboration plays across the category this fall, from Taco Bell‘s own Decades menu to Krispy Kreme‘s Pokémon doughnuts.

Nine days until the rest of the country finds out whether pink lemonade belongs in a Baja Blast.
