Obscure Joke Character Confirmed For Marvel vs. Capcom Collection

We are mere weeks away from the return of the popular Marvel vs. Capcom series with the brand new Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics for PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and PC/Steam. Announced this past June, the collection brings seven classic Marvel-licensed Capcom games from arcades to most modern platforms.

Earlier this week, fans got another tease at the game following the announcement of Capcom Fighting Collection 2, along with a release date for both digital and physical releases. The collection will release digitally on September 12th and will receive a physical release on November 22nd, which lines up with a previous leak.

However, not long after the reveal, another trailer highlighting the 1997 game Marvel Super Heroes vs. Street Fighter revealed something many fans assumed would be impossible. That being the return of Norimaro.

For those who are unaware, Norimaro is a character created by Japanese comedian Noritake Kinashi (who also portrays him). He is a caricature of stereotypical nerdy and cowardly characters in Japanese media. He was included as a secret character in the game in collaboration with Capcom. However, since he was only known in Japan, he wasn’t included in the game’s international release. He takes up a slot on the Marvel side of the roster, making the two main factions uneven in terms of representation.

Capcom has confirmed that he will only be playable in the Japanese version of the game (due to him only being available on that version), meaning that players can switch between the international and Japanese versions on the menu.

While definitely an odd inclusion, this shows Capcom’s dedication to making this collection the definitive anthology of these classic games. Hopefully both the sales of this game and the upcoming Capcom Fighting Collection 2 will lead to the reviving many of their old series, including the Capcom Versus series.

What do you think of this inclusion? What other classic fighting games do you want Capcom to bring back? Let us know your thoughts.
