No Drax the Destroyer Disney+ Series For Dave Bautista

I think the best thing to come out of the MCU is the first ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ film. Having been a long-time fan of Gunn’s work, from Troma to Slither, he hit it out of the park. Who knew that one odd fellow could create gold out of such an obscure Marvel property?

That being said, we’re suffering from a lack of classic MCU. As the new series on Disney’s subscription service appears to be focusing on politically charged topics, some of us crave escapism. Give us whacky adventures with off-the-wall characters. Give us Marvel’s ‘What If?’ levels of fun for a change. More absurd dialog from Drax, please. When will the Power Pachyderms get some love?

Sadly, it looks like one of those characters won’t show up as a frequent star of his own Disney+ series.

We saw via ScreenRant what Dave Bautista thought of a potential extended stay in Drax’s skin. The former WWE champion didn’t mince words when it came to a ‘Drax’ series:

Yeah, I was almost shocked. I almost got on my Twitter for a second and started to bash them for not making one Guardians character for TV. How does that happen? There’s so many interesting characters in that world. I just don’t get it. And then I thought, “you know I don’t know what they have in mind. I don’t know what they have planned.” I guess they took all their marquee characters and gave them shows and people were excited, so I don’t want to take away from that Just because I’m bitter that nobody from our series did. And if they offered me a series I wouldn’t do it. Not a chance in hell would I do a TV series playing Drax. That’s is a makeup nightmare. I would be miserable. That makeup is not fun. It’s awful stuff I didn’t sign up for.  Doing a TV series and that makeup is not something I signed up for.

I’d love to see more of the Guardians via various shows. Bautista’s complaints about the makeup aren’t surprising, though. Hours in the makeup chair, then constant touchups during filming amount to one exhausting experience. Maybe we can get a series of shorts revolving around baby Groot? Or, perhaps, audiences can finally get what they’ve been asking for … the return of Howard the Duck!

Are there other characters in the ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ films that you believe should have their own Disney+ show or movie? Let us know in the comments.
