No, Disney World Is Not Shutting Down. Here’s What’s Really Going On

It seems people are under the impression that Walt Disney World is shutting down and that is not the case. The rumor seems to have come from confusion stemming from an article on Inside the Magic and someone on TikTok covering the article and splicing it with other articles from other sites (from different dates.)

No. Walt Disney World is not shutting down. The article’s headline, “Goodbye! Disney World Theme Park Closure Begins Imminently, No Reopening Date in Sight” seems to be what caused the issue initially. The first sentence, which reads, “An entire Walt Disney World theme park has shut down indefinitely, displacing thousands of guests to other areas of the sprawling Central Florida resort,” further leads to the confusion.

The story is actually in reference to news from days ago, indicating that Walt Disney World’s Typhoon Lagoon water park was shutting down for refurbishment with no reopening date yet announced. Hence, a “Disney World Theme Park.”

But it went one step further when a TikTok creator crafted a video to run with a narrative that Walt Disney World was shutting down. This kicked off so many people questioning if it was true that Snopes covered it.

The TikTok creator consciousjoosee put up the video that spliced the Inside the Magic article, with an article from Disney Dining about Frontierland being temporarily shutting down for an “emergency” that happened in September. The two closures were not related in any way. They weren’t even during the same month.

Then he used an image from the Walt Disney World website that appears when the site isn’t working to further “prove” the parks were shutting down.

It’s not true. The incidents were unrelated and the closure being referred to in the Inside the Magic article was in regards to Typhoon Lagoon shutting down for maintenance and refurbishment.
