No. Disney+ Is Not Shutting Down In December But a New Disney+ Hulu App Will Release in Beta

Yet another rumor has surfaced that seems to indicate that Disney+ is shutting down and that parents should “prepare” for it. While changes are coming, and the two services will be combined into one app, Disney is not leaving parents without controls.

What’s actually going on.

The new rumor indicates that parents will have to be more careful of what their kids could see because they will likely have more services that their children could access. However, the new bundled app is releasing in beta in December for those with the Disney+ Hulu bundle.

Disney CEO Bob Iger is moving more towards putting Disney+ and Hulu together as a merged app December. Currently subscribers can get a bundle with Disney+ and Hulu for $9.99 (with ads) or $19.99 (ad free.) However, they are separate apps. Starting in December that will change as they will be combined. This is likely why Disney wanted to move ahead sooner on the Comcast buyout for the final 1/3 of Hulu.

Disney CEO Bob Iger told investors during the Q4 call on 11/8, that this will give parents time to set up the parental controls that will be available with this service.

A beta version of the Disney+/Hulu app will launch in December for subscribers of the two-service bundle — giving parents time to set up parental controls, according to Iger, who explained that Disney+ customers will be able to access adult-oriented Hulu content — ahead of the official launch in spring 2024 (around late March). The company expects Hulu on Disney+ to result in increased engagement, greater ad revenue, reduce customer-acquisition costs and lower churn, Iger said.

Parents will be able to block off content they do not want their children watching on the Disney+ / Hulu app.

It shouldn’t be much different than how it is currently on Disney+. There is content that kids shouldn’t watch and Disney added a password feature on accounts to limit access to shows parents might not want children watching. It’s pretty much the same thing

But Disney is not shutting down Disney+ in December.
