There is a new rumor circulating around the internet stating the the Walt Disney Company just bought an NFL team for $2 billion called the Mousketeers. This 33rd team is said to join the NFC South, giving the division five teams.
According to the rumor, the new team would also be getting a brand new stadium in Walt Disney World.
But is this true?
No.
This was once again the work of known Disney parody site, Mouse Trap News.
The article goes on to say, that since Orlando is the largest city in Florida and doesn’t have an NFL team, Disney was going to bring one ine to sell out their stadium and cash in on merchandise.
“Disney expects this investment to pay off for a few reasons. First off, Orlando is the largest city in Florida and doesn’t have an NFL team. On top of that, Disney is a huge destination and brand, which is the perfect combination.
They will have a ton of fans from Orlando and people who like Disney. They will also build the largest NFL stadium, which they expect to sell out every game. On top of that, they will generate a ton of revenue from selling jerseys, hats, and more.”
Don’t worry, it is all a joke.
While Disney does have deals in play with the NFL for ESPN coverage, they are not starting a new team and building a stadium. Although calling them the Mousketeers was an extra stroke of genius that sell the rumor even more.
Playing into Disney’s constant merchandise grabs was also well done and believable.
I personally love Mouse Trap News and highly recommend it for a good laugh, but please note that they post parody articles about the House of Mouse.
Among their recent articles is the “Top 5 Best Places to Fart at Disney World,” and “We Went to Disney Jail, This is What Happened.”
They even joke that in Disney jail Mickey spanked them.
