Nintendo Making Legend Of Zelda Film With SONY, Not Universal.

In what is considered to be a surprise move Nintendo has announced plans for a Live-Action film based on their popular Legend off Zelda franchise. Nintendo will be co-financing the project, However, the film will not be with Universal Studios as previously thought. Instead it will be with their video game rival SONY.

Nintendo and Universal have had a rather strong relationship recently with both of the Nintendo-themed lands at the Universal Studios theme parks in Japan and California, with the Orlando version opening with Epic Universe. Not to mention the highly successful Super Mario Bros. animated film that was released earlier this year developed by Illumination.

Rumors of an animated film based on the Legend of Zelda series began to circulate after the success of the Mario film. But now Nintendo’s Shigeru Miyamoto and Avi Arad, chairman of Arad Productions (and former founder and CEO of Marvel Studios), have been announced to be co-producers on a Live-Action film based on the series created by Miyamoto with SONY, the creators of the PlayStation brand, will act as distributors.

The film is set to be directed by Wes Ball, the director of the Maze Runner series and the upcoming Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes film. It has also been reported that writer Derek Connolly, known for writing the Jurassic World trilogy, Detective Pikachu, Kong: Skull Island, and co-writer of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, will be handling the script.

Some consider the Legend of Zelda series to be the video game equivalent to Lord of the Rings. Doing it in a live-action setting will definitely bring a level of seriousness to it, unlike the Mario film. It is, however, currently unknown if it will adapt any pre-existing Zelda stories or will be entirely original. All we know is that the series creator will be involved. Hopefully, that will ensure its authenticity to the source material.
