New Pixar Elio Trailer Sparks Rallying Cry To Support Original Animated Films

Pixar and Disney released a new trailer for their next original film “Elio.” The trailer has done well in views, sitting at 4.9 million in under 24 hours and the comments are mostly positive too. However, one thing I noticed repeated in the comments and on other social media platforms is that people want to support the film, even if it’s not good, to save original films.

Here is the new “Elio” trailer,

This is the film synopsis,

“For centuries, people have called out to the universe looking for answers—in Disney and Pixar’s all-new feature film “Elio,” the universe calls back! The cosmic misadventure introduces Elio, a space fanatic with an active imagination and a huge alien obsession. So, when he’s beamed up to the Communiverse, an interplanetary organization with representatives from galaxies far and wide, Elio’s all in for the epic undertaking. Mistakenly identified as Earth’s leader, Elio must form new bonds with eccentric alien lifeforms, navigate a crisis of intergalactic proportions, and somehow discover who and where he is truly meant to be.”

What does “saving original films” mean?

Currently, Disney’s new plan is to release two sequel films for every original film. So we get two films like “Toy Story 5” or “Frozen 3” for every one new film like “Elio.”

People are tired of the live-action remakes of original animation too. It’s one of the reasons “Snow White” looks like it is going to flop hard. The lead actress and terrible CGI animated dwarfs are also big reasons people are tuning out.

Disney fans want new films, but they want good new films that are what they always expected and loved. They want more films like “Inside Out 2,” “Moana,”  “Coco,” or “Encanto.”

Now, Disney animation fans are asking everyone to support “Elio” to save original films.  Disney only looks at the bottom line and as a business, they can not continue to make films that lose money (except for constant live-action remakes for some reason.)  By supporting original films these fans hope to “vote with their wallets” and show Disney that there is money to be made in the stand-alone originals with heart instead.

Here are some of those comments,

“I am already telling you. WE MUST SUPPORT ORIGINAL ANIMATED SERIES AND FILMS.” -TinyRiver97

Yet people dont. This is why we always get sequels.” -FGC_13942

“...Some people are sick of sequels and just want something new.” -joshdavenport6290

We all need to go out and support Elio when it releases! We need to support original Pixar movies now more than ever. Otherwise, the future could be a lot more sequels.“- GFettJake

Yes, these are exactly the kinds of movies Pixar and Disney should be making! This is what they’re all about!” -theluckiesteh9058

This movie actually doesn’t look half bad! It’s nice to see Pixar doing something original again, hopefully this movie does well, whether it ends up being good or bad, so that Pixar makes more original stuff.” -EnderBoy_11

you all better watch this movie or I’m NEVER buying the “we just want originals” complaint ever again.”– Teag_Brohman15

This is all great, but quality does matter as well.

If the quality isn’t there and people solely go because it’s an “original” we will likely get more of the same too.

The comments are very positive for “Elio” so I am thinking it might do well, which is surprising to me because I didn’t think it would. Maybe they found their audience with this one.  Either way, we do need to support GOOD original animation because Disney is getting ridiculous with their live-action reimaginings and constant sequels. After the success of “Inside Out 2” and “Moana 2” I know they will be going after more of that money.

However, if we didn’t have the original “Inside Out,” “Moana,” “Frozen,” or “Toy Story” Disney/Pixar wouldn’t have anything to push constant sequels from.

“Elio” hits theaters on June 20, 2025

Long live original animation!
