The new trailer released for the upcoming standalone Morbius film shows off how the character of Dr. Michael Morbius becomes a vampiric being with a thirst for blood. After trying to find a cure for his terminal illness he discovers a dark power that transforms his very being into a creature of the night. He gains the powers of flight, bat sonar and can turn into a monster resembling a vampire bat.
Jared Leto plays the doctor turned monster. Though his performance seems good so far, some are concerned due to his infamous portrayal of The Joker in the 2016 Suicide Squad, considered one of his worst performances and one of the worst portrayals of the character.
In the trailer we also see Matt Smith, Andria Arjona, Jared Harris, Al Madrigal and Tryees Gibson. We also see a short appearance from Michael Keaton reprising his role as Adrian Tooms AKA The Vulture from 2017’s Spider-Man: Homecoming, hinting at a larger universe.
With the rights to Spider-Man reverting back to Sony after Spider-Man: No Way Home Sony continues to expand their lineup of Spider-Man properties as they continue their plans for a Spider-Man shared universe. The concept was originally tried with the Andrew Garfield Spider-Man but was abandoned after the poor reception of The Amazing Spider-Man 2. More films based on characters such as Silver Sable, Black Cat, Prowler and Nightwatch are all supposedly in development.
The film is set to release January 28th, 2022.
