Yesterday morning Disney’s Animal Kingdom crew grew by one more when one of their elands gave birth to a healthy calf that was named “Doppler”, in honor of it’s post-storm birth.
It’s not yet known if Doppler is a boy or girl, but mom and baby are bonding and the team at Disney’s Animal Kingdom will conduct an exam in the near future to determine Doppler’s weight, height and gender.
Disney posted some adorable photos of the baby.

This is exciting news because the calf is part of a “species survival plan in partnership with the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA).”
Guests will not be able to see the new addition for a few weeks as “the pair will remain backstage for the next several weeks before venturing out onto the savanna with the rest of the herd.”
Congrats to Disney’s Animal Kingdom and congrats to the species survival initiative. It’s so exciting!
