This is why we make it super clear that something is a rumor and to take it with a grain of salt until it is confirmed. The Jim Henson Company itself has debunked reports that it is selling its historical lot to the Church of Scientology.
The Henson family has debunked the report that they would be selling the lot to the Church of Scientology.

Bullet dodged there for sure!
Here is the original article discussing the rumor and where it came from.
If you had the Muppet Studio Lot being sold to a church on your BINGO Card, you might win. Last month, it was reported that The Jim Henson Company was in the process of selling the famous studio lot that once housed Charlie Chaplin Studios. Now, according to the insider, the word on the street is that the lot is being sold to the Church of Scientology of all places.
But remember, this is all RUMOR. Nothing has been confirmed.
Why is The Jim Henson Company selling the Muppet Studio Lot?
The Wrap reported last month that the Jim Henson Company wanted to sell the location that has been the company’s headquarters since 2000.
The lot has been in operation for over 100 years. It was built in 1917 and opened in 1918.
It seems they want to sell and find a larger space to house everything under one roof. Until then, they may try to stay on as tenants at the studio.
“…part of a much longer-term strategy to have The Jim Henson Company and our renowned Burbank-based Jim Henson’s Creature Shop under one roof, which is not feasible in Hollywood due to the space the Shop requires.” For the near future, the company intends to continue as a tenant at the La Brea location.”
It’s unclear what the Church of Scientology will do with the lot, or if the Jim Henson Company will indeed stay in the building as a tenant, but according to the InSnider newsletter, the purchase is close to completion.
It is important to note that this is just a rumor. At this point, the only confirmed information is that The Jim Henson Company is selling the lot. It has not been confirmed that the Church of Scientology is actually purchasing the studio lot. So, take this all with a grain of salt until an official announcement is given.
I just thought it was an odd choice if true.
