In a not so shocking twist, Disney finally got enough courage to announce their plan to replace the Muppet Courtyard with their Monster Inc. area. Previously, Disney would show two pieces of concept art that seemingly indicated two potential locations, one of which was the fan-favorite area. The very fact that they refused to answer the question make it clear they were going to do this.
However, they are going to move the Muppets to the Rock ‘n Roller Coaster as an overlay.

Like the announcement of Cars bulldozing the Rivers of America, this has been met with a lot, if not more, outcry from fans. Not only are they getting rid of the last thing Jim Henson worked on with Muppet Vision 3D, they are also retheming the Rock ‘n Roller Coaster.
NEW: Monsters, Inc. land will replace Muppets Courtyard and Muppet*Vision 3D at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. To make way for monsters, the Muppets will take over Rock ‘n Roller Coaster and “team up with music’s biggest starts for a rockin’ music festival.” pic.twitter.com/kfUEhC2cu4

If this wasn’t bad enough, they are going to keep the Muppet Theater and make it a Monsters Inc. show now!
Also new – Disney says the Monsters, Inc. land will include “a whole new theater show” in the current Muppet*Vision 3D theater. pic.twitter.com/lXUQtevgFT

They know people are going to riot so they are promising to preserve the Muppet Vision 3D film and some show aspects, in some way, maybe.
Disney says there is still time to enjoy Rock ‘n Roller Coaster and Muppet*Vision 3D. Also about Muppet*Vision 3D, Disney says: “…we are having creative conversations and exploring ways to preserve the film and other parts of the experience for fans to enjoy in the future.” pic.twitter.com/r9ocClrcsP

While Launch Bay remains a useless dead space in the middle of a park that needs attractions pic.twitter.com/O1IvlLyYhv

I’m so glad that I got to experience WDW for the first time this year before Disney started randomly going in there with their bulldozer. https://t.co/uvOk9D34Ad pic.twitter.com/4TxaNZlPfy

Disney wants to replace or retheme any slower attraction so they can upsell single Lighting Lane passes. By retheming and repurposing the Muppet theater and Rock ‘n Roller Coaster they can do it relatively cheaper and then upcharge the heck out of it.
Fans are not happy.
