“Moana 2” is finally releasing later this month, and it looks like it could break some Thanksgiving holiday records!
Currently, the film seems to be set to have the biggest five-day Thanksgiving holiday box office ever.
Estimates for the Wednesday-Sunday holiday block put the film at over $135 million. This would beat the holiday total for “Frozen 2″back in 2019.
Ticket pre-sales already seem to indicate that “Moana 2” is outperforming the pre-sale tickets for both “Inside Out 2” and “The Incredibles.”
“Moana 2” was originally set to be a Disney+ show, but Disney made the right decision to turn the show into a film for 2024.
2023 was a disastrous box office period for the Walt Disney Company. Most of their films bombed, and only a couple broke even or made some money.
Thankfully, 2024 has been significantly better for them with hits like “Inside Out 2” and “Deadpool & Wolverine.” Ending the year on a high note with a sequel to a popular franchise will likely work out better for them than “Wish” did last year.
“Moana” was incredibly popular when it was released in 2016, and the fact that some think it might outperform “Inside Out 2” is significant, given how well that film did this year. “Inside Out 2” became the highest-grossing animated film of all time and even broke into the top ten films on the all-time list, where it now sits in 8th place.
The current box office total for the “Inside Out 2” film is almost $1.7 billion; experts think “Moana 2” could top it.
To further boost the excitement, the “Moana 2” end credit version of the song “Beyond” was released today.
Fans seem to be excited.
Here is the synopsis for the film.
“Moana 2” reunites Moana and Maui three years later for an expansive new voyage alongside a crew of unlikely seafarers. After receiving an unexpected call from her wayfinding ancestors, Moana must journey to the far seas of Oceania and into dangerous, long-lost waters for an adventure unlike anything she’s ever faced. Directed by David Derrick Jr., Jason Hand and Dana Ledoux Miller, and produced by Christina Chen and Yvett Merino, “Moana 2” features music by Grammy® winners Abigail Barlow and Emily Bear, Grammy nominee Opetaia Foaʻi, and three-time Grammy winner Mark Mancina.
It will be interesting to see how far it goes.
“Moana 2” releases to theaters on November 27, 2024.
