We are just weeks away from the United States Thanksgiving holiday, and with it comes the traditional Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. This year, Disney fans can look forward to a new Disney Cruise Line float and a new Minnie Mouse balloon joining the annual parade.
The new Minnie Mouse balloon will measure over 60 feet and join Mickey Mouse, Pluto, Donald Duck, and Goofy.
All the other balloons were added in 1934-35 except for Goofy, who debuted in 1992. Finally, Minnie is being added to the lineup.
Will Coss, executive producer of Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, said,
“It has been a Macy’s Studios dream for quite some time, and the folks here on my team who’ve worked on the design, actually bringing that character to life as a balloon in the sky, couldn’t be more excited about it.”
Chrissy Anderson, VP of North America Brand Commercialization at Disney Consumer Products, also offered a comment saying,
“Fans of all ages will have the chance to welcome Minnie Mouse and her signature charm as she makes her debut in this year’s Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.
I think what’s so amazing is her longevity. Any of [Disney’s] female characters who had a sense of identity and style and empowerment were my go-to.
She’s wonderfully partnered with Mickey, but can absolutely stand on her own with all of those key attributes and characteristics.”
90 years after Mickey Mouse and Pluto debuted in the parade, Minnie Mouse is finally joining in.
Of course, Macy’s and Disney want to cash in on the Minnie Mouse debut!
Macy’s and Disney are collaborating on a new collection to be released at the store. Some other Macy’s locations will also have special Mickey and Minnie shops offering these exclusive products and activities.
