Minecraft Expands Into Theme Parks With ‘Minecraft World’ and First-Ever Roller Coaster Experience

The world of Minecraft is becoming real with a major themed land that will include the franchise’s first-ever roller coaster at Chessington World of Adventures in London.

The upcoming project, developed through a partnership between Mojang Studios and Merlin Entertainments, marks the first time the best-selling video game will be transformed into a fully immersive theme park environment.

Minecraft World

The new land, referred to as “Minecraft World,” is scheduled to open in 2027 at Chessington World of Adventures in the United Kingdom. It is the first dedicated Minecraft-themed area in a theme park, with an estimated investment of around £50 million.

At the center of the development is a family roller coaster inspired by the game’s iconic minecart system, along with additional attractions, interactive experiences, themed dining, and retail locations.

The project is designed to bring the game’s blocky environments into a physical space, allowing guests to step into recognizable elements of the Minecraft universe, including its landscapes, characters, and creatures.

Part of a Larger Global Expansion

The UK project is just one part of a broader plan to bring Minecraft-themed attractions to multiple locations worldwide.

Mojang and Merlin Entertainments have previously outlined a global agreement to develop Minecraft-based experiences in both the United Kingdom and the United States, with initial openings targeted between 2026 and 2027.

Angela Jobson, SVP of Global Brand, Merlin Entertainments, said,

“We’re absolutely thrilled to be bringing Minecraft’s creativity, bold adventures, and ridiculous fun to life at a theme park for the first time at Chessington World of Adventures. Minecraft World will allow friends and families to play, explore and craft together on a truly epic scale. Working closely together with Mojang Studios we are meticulously creating an authentic world that the global community of Minecraft fans will want to immerse themselves in and experience the game in a whole new way.”

A Major Step for Gaming-Based Attractions

The move highlights the growing trend of video game franchises expanding into real-world entertainment. Minecraft has evolved far beyond its original format, branching into films, merchandise, and now theme parks.

By bringing the game into a physical setting, developers aim to give fans a new way to experience the world they’ve explored digitally for years—this time through rides, interactive environments, and shared in-person experiences.

As development continues, additional details about the attractions and international expansion plans are expected to be revealed in the lead-up to the land’s opening.
