For a limited time only, McDonald’s is bringing back the classic Boo Buckets! But you’ll have to wait thirteen more days!
The 2024 Boo Buckets follow the same template we saw last year. Although these seasonal Happy Meal carriers aren’t the same as the ones from the 1980s, they still hit the nostalgia nerve just enough to make us want to pick them up regardless.
This year’s containers still don’t have proper lids like the ’80s originals. Oh, well.
They’re smaller and less robust than the classics, but not only that … the designs on the buckets are not as Halloweeny as expected. This year’s theme features the Fry Kids with vaguely scary features.

“happy spooky szn to all who celebrate. boo buckets r back 10.15“
McDonald’s official site has zero info on the seasonal merchandise. Thankfully, you can check each store via the company’s app so you know if they’re available come the 15th.
The 2024 Boo Buckets aren’t bad at all, but I miss that simple classic look with the lid. As a poor redneck kid, I had to use the Happy Meal bucket as my candy sack during Halloween. These new ones look like they could barely hold one street’s worth of Samhain treats.
If McDonald’s really wants my money, the company needs to make the McNugget Buddies a yearly Halloween staple. Do you remember those? If not, check out the article at Dinosaur Dracula.
Do you know what I’d really like to see when it comes to bucket-centric food items? Lunchpales like the ones seen in Return to Oz. Sure, it may be considered stealing to have one by the Nome King, but I’d be willing to incur the wrath of the Wheelers in order to pull a ham sandwich out of an apple-shaped receptacle.
How about you?
