Mattel and Martin Aquatic have filed plans for a new indoor waterpark called Mattel Wonder. The location listed is about 10 minutes from Walt Disney World on Vineland Road. This will be the first of five Mattel Wonder parks.

Based on the conceptual plans, the location will include a 90,000 square foot indoor waterpark with a retractable roof, an outdoor event lawn and waterpark, a “slide zone,” and over 11k square feet of retail space. All in an 11-acre area.

Of course, the park will also feature Mattel brands.
Last November, Mattel’s VP of Global Location Based Entertainment, Julie Freeland, said,
“Mattel Wonder Indoor Waterparks will encompass many iconic Mattel brands that span generations of play, offering innovative water-based attractions and amenities in a dynamic new format for Mattel. We are thrilled to collaborate with these exceptional industry leaders in waterpark development to create an experience where guests can connect with their favorite brands in an entirely new way.”
Josh Martin, President and Creative Director of Martin Aquatic, told the Orlando Sentinel,
“We’re looking at those classic, iconic elements … What is familiar but unique about a Barbie area? So we look at the architecture. We’re not so focused on having Barbie characters. That’s not going to be the intent. Mattel has an incredible history of board games and Mattel toys and games, and so being able to look at things like Uno, and think outside the box — what if I were to design a water slide that was around Uno? What elements would I include that feels like you’re playing the game?”
Barbie sounds like she will be part of the park. While not confirmed, Martin did mention her specifically. Given her popularity, it makes sense.
It is unclear when construction will begin, and the new waterpark will open.
