Marvel’s X-Men cast could be revealed at D23 on Friday

The Disney Entertainment Showcase is Friday night in Anaheim, and it’s where a full X-Men cast and title would land. Jake Schreier is directing, Sadie Sink is Jean Grey, and almost everything else is still a report.

Marvel Studios has an X-Men film with a director, a confirmed cast member, and no title, no date, and no announced ensemble.

D23 opens Friday, August 14 in Anaheim, and the Disney Entertainment Showcase at the Honda Center is the venue where Marvel historically puts exactly that missing information in front of a screaming room.

Nothing is promised. Disney’s published programming lists the showcase, not its contents.

What’s actually confirmed about the X-Men reboot

Short list, and worth separating from the noise.

Jake Schreier is directing. He made Marvel’s Thunderbolts.

Sadie Sink plays Jean Grey, revealed through her appearance in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which is how Marvel chose to walk mutants into the shared universe rather than announcing it outright.

Reported but not confirmed by Marvel: Lee Sung Jin and Joanna Calo, who worked on Beef and The Bear, are writing.

What’s been reported and shouldn’t be treated as settled

Deadline has reported that Samara Weaving was offered Emma Frost and that Kit Connor read for Cyclops. Offered and read are not cast.

Sink herself has been useful on this. She told Vanity Fair she’s deliberately kept out of the casting process and finds out from Schreier, and that she never knows what’s official and what’s a rumor.

She’s the lead. If she doesn’t know who’s playing Scott Summers, the casting scoop in your feed this week is not more informed than she is.

She did say a good cast is coming together and that the announcement is going to land.

Why Friday is the likely moment

The pieces are all in one place.

A director attached. A Jean Grey already introduced in the biggest film of the year. A cast Sink describes as assembling. Sink separately told Vanity Fair she films X-Men before an FX and A24 series she’s doing next year, which points at a 2027 shoot.

And a three-day Disney fan event starting Friday, with Avengers: Doomsday arriving December 18 and needing all the runway it can get.

Marvel does not announce casts into a vacuum when it has a room like this available.

What else could come out of the Friday showcase

The showcase covers film, television, and streaming across Disney’s studios, so X-Men is one item among many. Marvel, Pixar, Lucasfilm, Disney Animation, and 20th Century all have slates to talk about.

Disney has also been publicly tempering expectations for the weekend, though that messaging has been aimed at the parks panel on Saturday rather than the film side.

Studios pull things from these slates constantly. A cast reveal that isn’t ready on Wednesday doesn’t become ready by Friday just because the stage is booked.

Still: if the X-Men cast doesn’t come out Friday night, the interesting question stops being who’s in it.
