Back in 2021, Disney announced that Marvel would be creating an ‘Armor Wars’ limited series show for Disney+ as part of Phase Four of the MCU. Later, in 2022, it was announced that the show would become a film. Don Cheadle was set to return James Rhodes/War Machine. And then it disappeared. Now we have a possible explanation
In a recent interview with Collider, Nate Moore, a producer on “Captain America: Brave New World,” was asked about the status of “Armor Wars” saying,
“You know, that’s not my project, to be honest. But, I do know, as Marvel [Studios] continues to go through this phase, we want to make sure whatever we’re making is awesome. So that means we had to slow down some things that were on the front burner. It doesn’t mean we’ll never make it, but it does mean we just have to be a little bit more considered so that every time out, audiences are guaranteed quality.”
It sounds like the project may be pushed back.
This seems to tie back to when Bob Iger indicated that they were going to look at projects moving forward and some things would be canceled.
We don’t know for sure what the status is, but we now know that after many disappointments with Marvel’s Phase Four, Disney is prioritizing shows and films that can “guarantee quality”. This translates to “movies and shows audiences actually want to watch and will pay for.”
The decision could also be the result of the poor reception to “Secret Invasion” where the character of James Rhodes was revealed to be a Skrull.
“Secret Invasion” flopped and was the worst-reviewed Marvel show. It is possible that “Armor Wars” was pushed back or possibly shelved after that disaster which Marvel focused on salvageable or more viable options.
Not long after “Secret Invasion” failed, it was announced that “Daredevil,” which was originally said to be a trainwreck, would be redone. Marvel and Disney decided to bring in a new showrunner and fix it, and it is moving forward. Meanwhile, “Armor Wars” simply hasn’t been mentioned again.
What do you think? Will “Armor Wars” get made?
