Marvel Reportedly Calls for Additional Reshoots on Captain America: Brave New World After Poor Test Screenings

Marvel Studios has called for more reshoots on Captain America: Brave New World following another round of less-than-stellar test screenings. Here’s what we know about the film’s status.

Marvel’s next installment in the Captain America series, Brave New World, is reportedly facing additional reshoots after unsatisfactory feedback from its most recent test screenings. This development marks the third time reshoots have been ordered for the film, fueling speculation about its readiness for release.

It is especially concerning due to its release date on Valentine’s Day.

Delays and Challenges

Originally slated to premiere in July 2024, Captain America: Brave New World has already been delayed to February 14, 2025. The film’s production has encountered repeated hurdles, with reshoots previously focused on improving action sequences that were reportedly underwhelming. According to sources cited in a report from World of Reel, Marvel’s decision to order further changes indicates lingering concerns about the film’s ability to meet audience expectations.

A Growing Budget

The extensive reshoots have significantly impacted the film’s budget, which is now $350- $400 million. While blockbuster budgets often climb due to post-production and marketing expenses, this figure underscores the scale of Marvel’s investment in the project—and the high stakes involved in delivering a successful Captain America film.
New reshoots will balloon the costs even more.

According to Tim Blake Nelson, who plays “The Leader” in the film, they have already shot the film twice.

Fandom Pulse pointed out that during an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Nelson said,

Well, we’re done. I’ve shot it. I’ve actually shot it twice because I did it originally a year ago, and then we came back and redid a lot of it at the beginning of it this summer.”

It is concerning if the film still hasn’t come together yet.

What’s Next?

With reshoots reportedly ongoing, the pressure is on Marvel to ensure that Captain America: Brave New World meets the high standards expected from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The studio has faced a challenging year, with some projects receiving mixed reactions from audiences and critics. This latest delay and additional work reflect Marvel’s commitment to refining its films and highlight the challenges of maintaining its reputation as a leader in the superhero genre.

With each reported reshoot, the likelihood of negative reviews impacting audience size grows.
