Many Floridians Are Going To Walt Disney World and Universal To Flee Hurricane Milton

The media has shown images of cars pouring into the Walt Disney World resort and Universal Orlando. Many ask, “Why are people going to a theme park during a hurricane?” Floridians are fleeing to the resorts because they are safer than their own homes.

Walt Disney World and Universal Orlando have experienced many hurricanes. They were built to withstand more than other locations. Plus, the power grid will likely be repaired quicker, and generators will be in place, at least at Walt Disney World, as they have their own power station.

Why do people stay at Universal or Walt Disney World During A Hurricane Like Milton?

Many Floridians have fled the state, which is the safer thing to do. However, that isn’t something everyone can do. Gas is scarce, and you do not want to be trapped on the highway during a hurricane. A closer option for many is Walt Disney World or Universal Orlando.

People do shelter at Disney during hurricanes. It’s as far inland as you can really get and they’ve got a lot of infrastructure on site to help support folks who are staying there.

I am sure they way do things have change but I would feel very safe staying at a Disney resort for a hurricane. They don’t just have generators, they have their own power plants. We never lost power during the 2 hurricanes I work during.

Various publications have stories about people evacuating theme parks for various reasons. For some it’s because they need access to power for medical reasons. Others feel the buildings are safer. Some like that they welcome pets.

Be prepared!

Remember to take provisions with you if you are evacuating to a Walt Disney World or Universal Orlando resort. At Walt Disney World, only the deluxe resorts have access to food inside the building. The Moderate and Value offerings usually require guests to go out to get food. While food can sometimes be brought to you, it’s better to be prepared.
