The recent cancellation of the Disney+ original series The Acolyte has the media in a frenzy. The Star Wars spin-off series by Leslye Headland was reportedly not renewed for a second season following the mixed reception of the first season when it first aired this past June.
While critics praised the series, the audience had the opposite reaction. It became the lowest-rated piece of Star Wars television in history, even surpassing the infamous 1978 Star Wars Holiday Special in terms of audience reception.
After the apparent cancellation, multiple outlets and the small dedicated fanbase the series accumulated and made their voices heard. Some fans even started a change.org petition to renew the show, which currently sits at over 65K signatures.
Even some of the actors on the show voiced their opinions on the situation. While some actors like Lee Jung-jae voiced opinions in a respectable way, others like Amandla Stenberg were less humble in their approach.
Now actor Manny Jacinto, the actor who played “The Stranger” aka Qimir, the Sith apprentice to Darth Plagueis, has given his thoughts on the matter. This past weekend at Dragon Con in Atlanta, Georgia during a panel the actor was asked what was something that he wanted to do before he eventually passes. He replied with “Season 2 of The Acolyte”.

While an actor has the right to enjoy a project that they have worked on, in the end if there is no audience for that movie or show there isn’t going to be a continuation. The series was reportedly the lowest viewed Star Wars show on Disney+ and seemingly repeated many of the same mistakes the 2022 Willow series made.
The Acolyte might not get a continuation and the future of the ‘High Republic’ era as a whole in Star Wars media is seemingly up in the air. If the poor sales of the novels and comics weren’t bad enough, its first and only live action representation going up in flames spells a dark future for that chapter in the timeline.
What do you think? Will The Acolyte get renewed at the last minute? Or is this all wishful thinking of a small and vocal fanbase? Let us know your thoughts.
